My name is Jonathan.  I play Harold Jutters@Arcos on the Star trek Online game am not new to star trek sims, but each one is a little different.  I am curious on how you do skills.  Do you roll for them or is it all just adlib impromptu?  Do you create character sheets (with skills)?

Anyways I also have a technical question: (Explanation of the use of Plasma on the ship):  I seem to have a guess as to the deuterium plasma is the fuel for the ship... Which is like a hybridized hydrogen... but what I wonder is if it's the magnetic fields associated to plasma moving from front to aft that propel the ships? A de-ionizing solution bat could claim the ionized H ion... for rapid reclaim.  And you could release a maybe an antimatter particle in the tube that dissipates due to loss of magnetic containment near the aft... but the magnetic fields of anti-mater are different, And maybe the antimatter particles magnetic field geometry is what gives the ship additional magnification, but the low field from the bat of de-ionizing solution is bound to have neutralized it by the back of the nacelle anyways...  plasma seems to be the power source throughout the ship as it can be drawn off by magnetic fields.... so, to course it like our veins, the heart is the warp core operates after halfway ionization and antimatter locks on to the halfway hydrogen plasma to rip it to full ionization (sort of like gears with Antimatter the middle gear + Di-lithium the bottom gear + hydrogen the top gear)

I will of course implement whichever way you guys' roleplay...

Hi Arcos,

At the moment our RP has been largely story driven without character sheets or "gamification". But don't worry ... we are working behind the scenes to get some actual full on TTRPG style sessions going. I think that it will likely utilize the Modiphius "Star Trek Adventures" rules, if you want to look into it.

As for the question in regards to how propulsion happens, that's a multi-level question. There's "Impulse" engines, which are largely not well explained anywhere and generally fall into the category of "technobabble", as far as I'm aware. It could be interesting to theorize how the movement of warp plasma within fields could be utilized to provide the "impulse". As for how ships move at warp, it is generally understood that the warp field alters space itself and it is the changing of the physical space around the ship that produces the movement. I think in the "new" Trek movies, there was even a "revelation" from new Scotty that it isn't the ship that moves, but rather space.

This is the kind of discussion we love to have. Feel free to join us on discord. We deploy Tues/Wed/Thurs and Sat/Sun following our first fleet scrum meeting at 7pm eastern time.
